PROFILE

Nelson is an owner surrender to GRRNT due to a change in his family's circumstances. He is a 10 year boy with plenty of love to give. Unfortunately, Nelson has heartworms and will need to undergo treatment before he can adopted. Nelson is in good health other than the heartworm infection.  He has good energy (for 10) and seems to feel good.  He seems to be settling into his foster home quickly.  By the end of his first full he had explored his new surroundings a bit, and was already coming to his foster family to play or just lie nearby and doze.  He gets along with is canine foster sibling well.  He tries to engage her in play but she’s not very interested.  Occasionally he’ll groom her a bit which she seems to enjoy, but otherwise, they mostly ignore each other. His coat had to be shaved due to matting and he looks a little naked right now, but he has a pleasant faced and nice color, so when his coat comes back he’ll probably be a very handsome dog.

He is house trained, and so far has done no digging or chewing.  He must have had a doggie door in his prior home because he figured it out very quickly.  He comes and goes as he pleases, but mostly hangs around wherever the family is. He needs some leash training, but rides in a car fine. His foster family crates their foster dogs initially, until they get to know them and find out if they are trustworthy in the home.  Nelson doesn’t like going in the crate but cooperates with a little bribe and doesn’t fuss much.

Nelson will be ready for adoption in a few months after completing heartworm treatment.
