Ralph came to GRRNT from a shelter. He is settling into his foster home and we will know more about him soon.

PROFILE

Ralph is a big, blonde, beautiful 2 year-old boy who was found as a stray. Fortunately, he was taken to a shelter, since he was very underweight and sick. The shelter’s staff nursed him back to health and today he’s very strong and very healthy. He was a little uncertain about all the changes in his life at first, but he has been a perfect gentleman, and even got a bath with no fuss. He is treat motivated and will go in his crate voluntarily if he knows he’s getting a treat. It’s not his favorite place, but treats are a big draw!

Ralph may not have had much training in the past, but he is picking up on leash training fairly well now after a few days of his fosters encouragement. He has only had one potty accident in the house but foster mom is sure that was just over excitement, and he has not had any other accidents since that one. Ralph is very good with the female Golden he is living with, and they are really cute playing together since she is small enough to walk under him!

It appears that Ralph had never been in a house or on a leash previously, and may not have had regular access to food and water, because food is very important to him. The good news is that he’s a very sweet boy who wants to do the right thing, except when his instincts take over (food, food, where’s the food???). His training is going well, but he will need time to get used to the behaviors and routines of life in a house with other dogs, humans, cats, etc. We are continuing to work with Ralph on training so he will be ready to join his forever family and have a smooth adjustment. We want to give him plenty of time to settle in, get basic training and reveal his inner Golden personality so we can match him with the right family.

The perfect family for Ralph would be one that is looking for an active young dog, has no young children at home, and is patient and willing and able to take Ralph through the long-term training process. You’ll also need to be physically active and strong yourself to be able to handle him until he’s fully trained. Bu he’s a willing student and will reward you with all the love he’s been holding in his heart for too long. Ralph is a sweet boy and loves his people. He is playful and happy, and when play time is over he is happy to lay at your feet for companionship.
