Maisy is an owner surrender to GRRNT due to a change in her family's circumstances. She is just settling into her foster home, and we will have more information about her soon.

PROFILE

Maisy has been in our care for about a week and we have learned so much about this sweet girl.  She is starved for attention, and is just now learning how to play with the other dog in her foster home. She is kennel trained and it’s obvious she has spent a good deal of time either crated or outdoors. Her foster family is giving her lots of attention and positive encouragement.  She is progressing and is finally learning to relax in the house outside of the kennel.  She wants to be loved on, and will seek your attention wanting to be petted for extended periods of time. She does counter surf, and eats her meals like she must compete for food. She has not shown any negative behaviors toward children or anyone else.  Maisy just needs some love, and to learn that she will always have the attention she deserves. She is looking to her family for guidance.

Maisy was curious about the cat, and did get a good swat on the snout when she got too close, but she now understands she should give the cat some space, and is not as intent on checking her out or trying to get her to play. Maisy will be fine with a family with elementary school age and older kids, but would be better in a home without toddler children. She would enjoy other dogs, but a home without a cat will be best.

Maisy will be available for adoption soon.

UPDATE

4/18/2017

Maisy is getting comfortable in her foster home, and learning that “all four” down gets her petted rather than jumping on her foster parents. She initially exhibit some fear of the teenage son in her foster family when he would approach the crate while she was crated, barking and growling. So he has become the “treat guy”, coming by her kennel, talking nice to her then delivering treats, and her fearful behavior is improving quickly. The “treat guy” method is working well, and she now gets excited to see him. She is very treat motivated! She is super smart and learns quickly. Maisy walks great on the leash, and has no problem with the teenage son walking her or interacting with her at any other time, it was just when he approached her crate while she was kenneled that caused her reaction.

She is still learning to be comfortable with freedom in the house when she is not kenneled. She will pace around, and has trouble relaxing. It’s only been a couple of weeks, so we expect that she will adjust to being an indoor dog with more time. Maisy will need a home with lots of love and attention. She is a sweet dog and very much wants to please. but unsure how to do that. The more bonding and training she receives, the more she will understand what is expected of her, the more confident and happy she will be.
