Ransom is an owner surrender to GRRNT. He is just settling into his foster home, and we will know all about him soon.

PROFILE

Ransom is a beautiful, inquisitive, playful puppy in a big boy's body! He wants nothing more than to love and be loved. In his past life Ransom was never allowed inside the house, he had little interaction with humans, and missed out on the training and socialization that most puppies get during their first year.

He has never experienced an interactive life indoors yet he is adapting remarkably well! This adorable boy is in a hurry to make up for lost time by exploring, testing boundaries, and trying to understand exactly what is expected of him. He knows the commands 'sit' and 'no'. Ransom likes his crate, but if he is in it and can hear but not see you he will politely whine because he just desires to be close to his people. This big guy also does great in his crate overnight and is pretty well house trained- although we have had a couple accidents. He must be let out often, however, this is partially due to the medicine he is taking. He came to GRRNT with a skin infection, and ear infection, which we are treating.

Ransom is super energetic! With regular exercise his energy is definitely manageable but he just doesn't understand how big and strong he is. He is good with other dogs but since he doesn't know his size and strength will knock them over in a playful manner when he gets excited. He has not been around small children but would probably do better with older ones until this enthusiasm is controllable. There is without a doubt more leash training necessary but he has come a long way. It appears he never witnessed moving vehicles up close & unfortunately tries to chase them to get a better look. Ransom will also run after squirrels, rabbits, statues, leaves... He loves walks and appreciates positive reinforcement & loves being told he's a good boy but wants to experience everything up close and personal!

This sweet boy eats his food and takes his medicine without issue. He will counter surf and look for treasures in the garbage or pantry if given the chance though. Ransom does not like vacuum cleaners, loud noises or being ignored. He is not allowed on furniture, and he is ok with that, but you can't blame a dog for trying- It starts with a sweet, loving but determined gaze directly into your eyes, then a gentle paw on your leg and if you are not quick to move it another paw appears and before you know it he's in your lap! He will readily get down but kindly demands affection.

He likes to play with his back paws and chase his tail, but needs a large area to do so or will clear the room. He is learning to fetch a ball and play with toys but will chew paper or cloth if given the opportunity so you must be vigilant. He has not tried to chew furniture or shoes but will nibble on toes!

Ransom wants love and attention and is open to learning to do whatever it takes to get it! He catches on very quickly and truly wants to please. He has a kind, gentle temperament. Ransom's good looks are well matched with his sweet disposition! He is a fabulous puppy with immense potential to be an extremely loyal companion. Ransom will be an excellent addition to an active family that has time to dedicate to properly caring for this awesome dog, and committing to giving him the training he deserves to be the wonderful family member he is capable of being.

UPDATE

10/9/2018 Ransom’s skin and ear infection are being a bit stubborn, and will need a few more weeks of treatment before he is cleared for adoption.
