Jade - #08-142
Female - 12 years
Jade is a very sweet 12 year old girl who was spared, along with her friend, Jewel, from euthanasia at a city shelter by just minutes! The girls were transported to the Metroplex from out west by some wonderful volunteers. Her friend Jewel has already been adopted and Jade is hoping to find her forever home, too!
She is a calm girl who loves to be brushed and petted. She will sit patiently in front of you or follow you around in hopes of getting some attention – then collapse onto her side for belly rubs. When Jade is happy she makes a snorting noise similar to a purr.
Jade LOVES to go on walks. Don't let this girl's age fool you because she is fast! She likes to get up and go and she can keep up the pace for quite awhile. Jade has a clean bill of health and does not need any daily medication. Jade is housebroken and will bark to let you know she needs to go outside. At her foster home she uses the dog door and loves to lie outside under a tree or on the patio and enjoy the day.
She also loves to eat and will start spinning around and prancing on her toes when it's dinnertime. Her new family should be aware that Jade eats in a crate because she can be food aggressive. She probably didn't get a lot of good meals in her previous life and worries that someone else is going to eat her food. But she runs right into her crate and waits patiently to be let out once she finishes her meal.
Jade gets along fine with the four big dogs at her foster home, and she ignores the cat. She has shown some aggression towards small dogs, so they should be avoided. Jade would be fine in a home with other big dogs or by herself.
Jade can be a sassy girl and will try to get away with things. She loves to pull things out of the trash can and try to sneak away. She knows better, though, and will stop or drop whatever she has if verbally corrected. Jade is very vocal and will tell you if you've slept in past breakfast time or if her tummy is growling for dinner. She also likes to bark at her young foster brothers when they play. Sometimes she will join in and it is very cute to see her bow to invite their play, and then try to keep up with the boys.
Jade has thunderstorm anxiety, but is not destructive. Just a little rumble will cause her to shake like a leaf. She likes to be close to her people when she gets scared. She has medication she takes to help with the anxiety, but she needs someone who will be patient with her and help her to feel safe.
Because Jade is a little more set in her ways, she will do best in a structured environment where she gets a lot of love and attention - belly rubs would be a well-appreciated bonus!
This lovely senior lady is just looking for someone to love – she will be a lively addition to any home!
