Splash - #10-056
Male - 9 years
Splash is a spunky, happy-go-lucky 9 year-old. He was given up by his previous owners for unknown reasons, but is such a wonderful dog it’s hard to imagine why! He is such a sweetheart and gets along well with other dogs and people of all ages.
He can be a ham, though, and loves to be the center of attention. He is never aggressive, but he’s not shy about pushing his way to the front of the love line. He is extremely affectionate, and loves to drape himself across any available person for some lovin’. He especially seeks out affection and comfort during thunderstorms. Like most goldens, he definitely thinks he’s a lap dog.
Splash has the energy and agility of a pup at least half his age, and is a fanatic for tug-of-war games and tennis balls. He especially loves to jump up in the air to try to catch those balls, and might actually be good with a Frisbee. He doesn’t live up to his name though, as he doesn’t like to go swimming - we can only guess he was named for the splash of white on his chest. Despite his enthusiasm for playtime, he is able to settle down quickly and relax on his own. He won’t complain, though, if you want to help him relax with a nice body massage or belly scratch. He really loves being handled, which makes grooming easy, and he’s so silky soft that he’s a pleasure to pet.
Splash enjoys going for walks, and he delights in grabbing the leash and helping to walk himself (or any other dog). He also enjoys car rides, though he tends to hog the whole back seat, which isn’t always convenient for other dogs that may be joining him for a ride. He’s also great indoors - he’s housebroken, doesn’t get up on the furniture, and doesn’t get into anything, unless you leave food lying around. He loves to eat, so he’s a counter-surfer, and gets so excited at mealtime that he jumps up and down to check his bowl, making sure that it’s getting adequately filled. Although he tries to sit like a good boy when you set it down, he just can’t restrain himself long enough to stay there before digging in. He isn’t food aggressive at all, though, and will even let you cover his bowl with your hand or touch his mouth as he’s eating.
At some point in his life he must have been big on chewing things, as his teeth are really worn down, but he definitely doesn’t have that habit anymore. He is quite clever, though, and can open doors with lever knobs, and use his snout to open doors that are slightly ajar, but he only does that if you’re on the other side since he wants so much to be with you.
Splash does have a kidney issue, and has a couple of meds to take along with a special kidney-friendly canned dog food available from the vet. This issue hasn’t slowed him down a bit, and he remains active, energetic, alert and happy!
Splash truly is a gem! His expressions and antics are sure to amuse and entertain. He has such an infectious zest for life, and lives each day with such a genuine, happy, playful abandon that he could teach mankind a lot. The person or family who provides a forever home for Splash will truly be blessed, and their lives will be greatly enhanced by this special boy!
