Danny - #11-042
Male - 3 years
Danny is a gentle natured three year old golden who was found by animal control as a stray. Once in the care of GRRNT, it became apparent that he was in a great deal of pain since he was reluctant to put much weight on his back leg. Throughout all the poking and manipulating required to reach a diagnosis, Danny remained friendly and loving. A short time ago, Danny had a femoral head ostectomy on his left hip. He is currently undergoing physical therapy to restore strength and mobility to his leg. Because he holds up his leg while running, Danny needs several long, slow walks daily which force him to use his leg. It would be wonderful if he could be placed with a forever family with a pool and a dog who’s an avid swimmer. Danny will need to follow another dog’s example to learn that swimming can be fun! Plus, swimming is the very best physical therapy for hip surgery.
Danny has a wonderful personality! He is inquisitive and friendly. Not only does he get along with all the dogs he has met, his gentle nature has even charmed his foster family’s cat! He is an enthusiastic toy retriever and will often carry one around. Currently, his two favorites are a squeaky ball and a stuffed dragon. He loves people and will often greet you by presenting you with a toy. His foster mom allows him on the couch and the bed because he is such a sweet and gentle snuggler. He really loves his people and would be happiest in a home where he is not left alone for the entire day.
Danny’s manners are impeccable. Although he arrived un-housebroken, he has learned how to use a doggy door and has not had any accidents inside since. He knows several commands including shake, speak and sit. And what a delight to report that Danny has no fear of storms, does not counter surf or disturb things that are not his toys. If he needs to be restricted from too much activity, a baby gate across the bedroom door is his invitation to nap on the bed.
Danny is an amazing dog. He has endured abandonment, extreme pain, and surgery. Through it all he has remained gentle spirited, loving and trusting. His final health battle is to survive the heartworm treatment before being placed in a very special forever home. Danny’s ongoing care must include consistent exercise, high quality food and plenty of love and attention.
