Daphne - #11-086
Female - 1 year
At just barely a year old, Daphne was found wandering the streets of downtown Dallas with a frayed rope around her neck. Thankfully, the local animal control rescued her and turned her over to the care of GRRNT.
In the short time Daphne has been in her foster home, every effort is being made to help her move beyond her distrust of people. She is no longer brought to the Meet & Greet events because being surrounded by strangers contributes to her obvious discomfort. However, she is slowly becoming more relaxed when meeting new people in a more intimate and controlled setting. Daphne will need a very special forever family to teach her that people can be loving and gentle.
As she becomes accustomed to her foster family, each day she is more insistent about receiving her fair share of affection. Daphne, who is not in the least intimidated by the other foster dogs, has been known to push in front of them to ensure that she is the first one in the love line.
It would appear that Daphne was denied consistent access to both food and water. She loves to eat and tends to gobble down not only all her food, but any that remains in her foster dog family bowls as well. She is obsessed with drinking water and no amount of it seems to satisfy her. All her medical tests show nothing out of the ordinary, she is just obsessed with drinking water. Naturally, this requires she be given frequent potty breaks. She is also crated overnight or when no one is home to walk her.
Because she is still fearful in open spaces, Daphne is a very cautious walking companion. You might describe her as being Velcro-ed to the person walking her.
Although we can’t say for sure what Daphne has experienced, at the very least, she has been neglected by her first humans. She will probably be most comfortable in a low key family. It takes some time for her to overcome her initial shyness, but she is hungery for affection. Because she has shown a tendency to dominate the other dogs in her foster family, she is probably better suited to be an “only dog”.
Fortunately, Daphne is still a young dog. Time, love and patience should help erase the past and guide her into a much better forever!
