Candy is the perfect name for this Golden Girl because she is super sweet! And although she really is a Golden Girl at 12 years of age, she still has plenty of spunk and loves to play with her toys.
Candy gets along very well with other dogs and with children. She came to GRRNT approximately 20 pounds overweight, so is being kept on weight management food and going for lots of walks, which she also loves.
She is totally housetrained and extremely affectionate, loving nothing more than a good ear scratch or belly rub. She would love a forever family that has plenty of those rubs (and love) to give.
Candy is in the process of undergoing treatment for heartworms. After that, she will be spayed. She will probably be available for adoption in late May or early June. And she will forever “thank you for being a friend!”
Candy has finished her heartworm treatment and is doing well. She has lost 10 pounds and is back to walking, and chasing rabbits and squirrels. She likes playing with her canine foster sibling, and really enjoys loving on the grandkids and giving them kisses.
Candy received her heartworm treatment today. Now she will be on restricted activity for the next several weeks for recovery.
Candy has been started on thyroid medication and it is already making a big difference. She's lost a couple of pounds and is more active!
Candy is currently walking everyday and the vet has put her on a prescription weight loss food as of May 1st. At first she started out losing 3 pounds and then she gained it back. The vet is also testing her for a thyroid condition. The vet would like for her to lose ten pounds prior to her being spayed. She is also still on antibiotics in preparation for her heartworm treatment.
Her foster parents have been feeding her green beans and carrots for snacks. They steam green beans and carrots so they are easy for her to chew and she loves them.
Her favorite toy is a squeaky ground hog. She is also learning to get up on the couch on her own.
She does not need to be crated. She barks or nuzzles a hand if she needs to go outside to potty.
She rides very well in the car, but needs assistance getting in. Her foster dad took her to the lake for the first time this past week. Candy was hesitant at first about getting in the lake but eventually got into the water. Her foster dad thinks she will enjoy it more and more as they go often.
All the kids in her foster family and neighborhood love her and she gets along great with them. She loves to try and catch squirrels and rabbits on her walks!
She is pretty spunky for an old gal, especially around squirrels and rabbits.
The following is a mix of estimated and actual healthcare costs.
Healthcare Costs as of 3/31/2015: $ 545.90
