In early August 2020, Tito came to GRRNT from local animal control. His owners turned him into the shelter because they couldn’t afford his vet needs. He was estimated to be 14-15 years old, and had many health concerns. Minor concerns were eye and ear infections, and he was deaf. He had several baseball sized masses all over his body, was not walking on one rear leg, and had to have help just to get up after lying down. To add to that, he was not eating, and was not urinating for the majority of every day, even though he was drinking a notable volume of water. Tito was in general in very poor health. The GRRNT vet quickly determined that this sweet old man was in liver failure, and tests gave us the very sad news that it was actually liver cancer.
Tito spent a week in comfort curled up on memory foam beds (two stacked together), getting all the peanut butter stuffed bones he could eat, and being pampered and loved on in the very capable hands of our medical coordinator who opened her home to this boy despite having just lost her senior boy only a week before; and then we said goodbye and helped him over the bridge before his health failed any further. We couldn’t fix him, but Tito left this world knowing he was loved.
