Frank was picked up by local animal control after being hit by a car. He had a head injury, a broken rear leg, a dislocated shoulder, and lots of bruising and soreness. He was in rough shape when GRRNT picked him up from the shelter. He spent several weeks at the vet's office for treatment and monitoring. He is slowly recovering, and recently was well enough to go to his foster home. Unfortunatley, Frank also has heartworms, so once he has fully recovered from his physical injuries he will need to go through heartworm treatment. Frank will stay with GRRNT for several months.
Frank is a real "mellow fellow." He is such an easy keeper. He still has a slight limp with a shoulder that was dislocated, but he doesn't let it get him down. He loves to go out in the large yard and run around and just loves going on walks to explore new smells. He gets along great with other dogs, as he has two little terrier foster sisters and has also spent some time with his large cousin, a pit bull. We haven't seen him with cats, so we are not sure how he would interact with them.
Frank is also a complete gentleman. He is housebroken, walks on a leash, and just loves getting brushed. Although he outweighs his two terrier foster siblings by about 70 pounds, he always lets them go first. He also takes a dog biscuit with a very gentle mouth. Most of the time he lays at foster mom's feet and sleeps, and just loves any amount of attention. He also has a quirky habit of "talking" to you when he wants to go outside, or any time he wants attention. He's a real character.
He has been around his foster mom's 6-year-old granddaughter and behaves well, so he would do well with a family or anyone with dogs. He just wants to be near his human and is a great companion. Frank is a kind, gentle, old soul, and he will make someone a very happy owner.
11/3/2017 Frank is making good progress with his shoulder injury. He doesn't have to wear the splint any longer, and the vet said his joint has stabilized enough that he can't pop it out. Now we're working on building up the muscles that were weakened while he wore the splint. He is getting 5 minute walks with the intention of building up to 15 min. He still limps but hopefully that will get better. Frank is a VERY laid back dog and a very vocal dog. He reminds his foster mom when it's getting close to dinner time, just in case she's forgotten. Frank is a really nice mellow old boy.
9/29/2017 Frank has finished his heartworm treatment!
8/12/2017 Frank is doing better everyday. He needed a shoulder splint to help keep his dislocated shoulder repositioned back in place, but he is feeling good enough to roll around on a soft dog bed!
8/3/2017 Frank was neutered today.
