Riley is an owner surrender to GRRNT. She is a sweet girl, and gets along with other dogs. She is well behaved, and is settling into her foster home. Her foster family will be able to tell us all about her soon.

PROFILE

Riley is an 8-year female, who was an owner surrender to GRRNT. She does great with the other golden retriever in her foster home, and she also does very well with the cat, they co-exist peacefully. When she has met children, she has been very sweet, calm and friendly.

Despite her more “senior status”, Riley loves to play! She’ll fetch and you rarely find her without a toy (or sock) in her mouth. She knows the very basics. She walks well on a leash and will sit. We are working on her training around things like “down”, “stay”, and “shake”. Riley some arthritis, so stairs can be a bit tricky if she is just waking up, but with her medical treatment this is getting better, and she takes her medicine very well.

She loves eating her breakfast and dinner, but is sometimes picky about treats. Unlike other goldens most of Riley’s begging is for love! She always is eager for a pet or rub. She does not beg much for food. She is still learning counter manners, and has grabbed one or two things off the counter, but she is working on it.

Riley sleeps in the bedroom on a dog bed, but will also sleep in her crate. She is very sweet and eager to please, and is always near and very excited to spend time together. She does great in the car, and lies down on the back seat the entire time. We haven’t yet been with her during a thunder storm, but she has done well in the rain.

Riley is heartworm positive. She has started treatment, but it is an extended period of time. She needs to stay calm with little activity through the end of April when she has her final vet check. Riley should be available for her adoption in late April/early May if all goes as planned.

UPDATE

3/7/2019 Riley had her first heartworm treatment today. She wasn’t feeling very good afterwards, but she is getting good care and should be fine.
