Tony was picked up as a stray by local animal control. He is settling into his foster and we will know all about him soon.

PROFILE

Tony is a big boy, an 80 lb 4 year old dark colored golden retriever. He is underweight and the vet estimates he will be 90-95 lbs when he’s filled out! He will be neutered soon, and has ear drops for a minor ear infection. Even though he is underweight, Tony has no food aggression and has just sat and watched his foster brother sneak over to his bowl.

We are unsure of Tony’s history, but he is potty trained (only one accident, in his first hour exploring the house), does not mark, and knows not to get on the furniture. He does not chew on objects but will destroy a dog toy if he’s in the mood! He understands basic commands (sit, lay down, no) but will push his boundaries, so he needs a patient family to help refine his manners. He acts like a young dog, but has the classic Golden personality! He is eager to please and receive any affection/attention.

Tony gets along well with his 40 lb border collie foster brother. He was submissive and friendly from the beginning, but doesn’t seem to know how to really play with other dogs. He is learning how to play fetch, but mostly he enjoys tearing toys apart. He would do well either in a home by himself or with a friendly dog to show him the ropes. He’s not a fan of his kennel, but does well once inside during the work day.

Tony is a gentle giant, but we don’t think he would do great with smaller children because he tends be pushy when he wants some love. Also, his strong tail alone could probably give them a concussion! He is a wonderful dog and if you ever wanted a Texas sized Golden, here he is!
