Destiny was picked up as a stray by animal control. She will need to be spayed in a few weeks. She is just settling into her foster home, and we will know more about her after her foster family gets to know her.
Destiny is a really sweet gentle young girl, full of spunk. She is very loving and soft and loves to snuggle up to you for hugs and attention. Her favorite spot will be in your lap if you let her, but she is happy to sit close by. Once you give her a hug or two, she is then off to see what else she can discover. She did great when getting a bath and likes to be brushed. She will stand still for you while you brush her. She is one year old and a lot of things are still new to her. She is walking on the leash very well and likes all the smells and sights on our walks.
She loves to play with her foster sister, and they get along great. She rarely barks and will stop when asked. We don’t have cats and she has not been around small kids, so I’m not sure how she will do, but just watching her temperament and her sweet nature, I would be surprised if that were a problem.
She is house trained, but has had a couple accidents when she first arrived, just getting used to changes and a new environment. She does need supervision in the kitchen as she will counter surf, but rarely tries anymore as she has not been successful finding anything. She likes to see what you are eating, and looks for things to eat. She is a smart girl and will benefit from training classes to help channel that intelligence to positive activities. She is still young, so she is testing boundaries, she has not chewed on furniture or shoes or clothes, but she did get a hold of the remote when Foster Dad was not looking.
If you are not looking she will sneak onto the furniture, but quickly gets down when asked “off”. Foster Dad is home with her during the day, when he has left to run errands for a couple hours she was not crated and behaved well on her own with her foster sister, in the house. She has been great outside as well, and is one of the few foster dogs that has not dug in my flower beds so far. Good for her!
She is learning to “sit” and understands “no” and “off” (with reluctance). Also learning “wait” at the door until she is asked to enter/leave. She is a quick learner and is happy to please. She will do well on her own or with a canine playmate. Ideally it would be good if someone is home at least part time, since she is still young and needs lots of time and attention as she learns the rules.
Destiny is a loving, sweet, gentle and happy young girl… she will make a great addition to her fur-ever family.
