Help Baxter Walk Into His Future

0 out of 5

Baxter is only 14 weeks old—a Golden Retriever puppy who should be chasing toys, learning his name, and discovering how wonderful the world can be. Instead, his life nearly ended before it truly began.

A few days ago in Corsicana, Baxter was hit by a car. Broken, terrified, and in pain, he was rushed from the Veterinary Medical Center of Athens to MedVet Dallas, where he spent days fighting to breathe, relying on oxygen around the clock as his bruised little lungs struggled to heal. Both right legs were shattered. His pelvis was feared broken. Every movement hurt, even with strong pain medication.

And yet… Baxter fought.

Because he’s a puppy. Because puppies are resilient. Because he hasn’t given up.

After days of careful monitoring, specialists stepped in. His back right leg was completely destroyed—but today, thanks to surgery over the weekend, it has been painstakingly rebuilt with plates and hope. To give him the best chance to heal, surgeons also stabilized his front leg so he won’t have to recover on just two good legs. Miraculously, his pelvis was spared. Even more incredible—his lung contusions have healed. His tiny lungs will be just fine.

Baxter has already taken a few brave steps on his own, motivated by treats and the promise of a pain-free future. He’s off IV fluids. The catheter is out. He’s fighting a fever now, but everything about this sweet boy says he wants to live.

What Baxter needs next is us.

Emergency care, advanced imaging, multiple surgeries, hospitalization, and medications come at an overwhelming cost—but every dollar raised goes directly toward giving Baxter the healthy, happy life he deserves.
